TRANSFER PROCESS

How Does The Transfer Process Work?

To facilitate the transition, begin the process by getting in touch. We will arrange to visit you at home to discuss what’s involved. We’ll work with you, your existing agency, and the local authority to make sure everyone understands what will happen and that any children or young people placed with you are fully supported at every step of the way. It is important to remember that foster carers can only be approved by one agency at any one time.

If you currently have a child placed with you, the transfer procedure begins with you giving your intention to resign to your existing fostering agency or local authority in writing. Once this intention to resign has been delivered, you can then apply to foster with us. After we’ve visited you and you’ve made the decision to transfer to us, we’ll ask your existing fostering agency for a reference. When we’ve received this, you’ll be able to begin the transferring process. After your panel presentation, you then give your formal resignation in writing. You’ll be allocated a social worker who will support you through your assessment.

I have a child in placement; can the child transfer with me?

If you have a child placed with you, there is a slightly different transfer process because the needs of any looked after child or young person are really important to us. That’s why we’ll work closely with you and them to make sure that the transfer process works smoothly. The first step is to tell your existing local authority or independent fostering agency as soon as possible that you want to transfer. At this point, they’ll arrange a meeting with you to discuss the transfer and we’ll be at the meeting with you.
